I am a freelance writer, lecturer and wine tasting coordinator based in New York City. My articles, which cover wine, travel, lifestyle, food, profiles and essays, have appeared in many publications, among them, Global Traveler, Private Clubs, Dallas Morning News, National Geographic Traveler, New York Times, More and Elle.

I write a monthly wine column for Global Traveler. And I am now in my sixteenth year as director of the Annual Airline International Business Class Wine Competition which judges business class wines submitted from airlines throughout the world that offer international service.

Among my travel outlets, I am a frequent contributor to Dallas Morning News Travel Section where both my articles and photos have been published. One of my travel specialties and particular pleasures is writing about New York where I focus especially on the less known parts of the city.

For my book, Burgundy: The Country, The Wines, The People, published by Harper & Row and the winner of three writing awards, I lived in a room in a centuries-old barn in Burgundy as I traced the cycle of the vine through the vintners, their families, the barrel maker, the woodsman, négociants, Cistercian monks and chefs. I picked grapes in the harvest. I visited oak forests with the barrel maker. I spent time at his cooperage as he turned staves into barrels. I received rare permission to go behind the walls of the Cistercian monastery. I went marketing at dawn with a chef. I watched him turn these raw purchases into sumptuous dishes. I tasted new wines from barrels. I tasted old wines from bottles. Rather than a wine book that concentrates on charts, vintages and tasting notes, my book is about the people, their history, how their lives revolve around growing grapes and making wine and what it is like to live in one of France's oldest wine regions that has never let go of its past.

As a speaker, I've given talks and wine tastings for the Ferguson Library, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, Harvard Club, Union League Club, Bentley College, American University, The Prudential, Austrian Tourist Board, Académie du Vin, French Culinary Institute, Connaissance et Cie and others.

I have also judged in many wine competitions in the United States, South Africa, France and Italy.

Before moving to New York 25 years ago, I lived in California and France. I have traveled throughout much of the world and most of its wine regions.
